Men’s Tennis Secures Sixth Consecutive CUNYAC Championship and Earns NCAA Berth

The Baruch College Bearcats have once again emerged as the CUNYAC Men’s Tennis Champions, securing their 17th championship in program history with a resounding 5-0 victory over Brooklyn. The match took place at the prestigious USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, where the Bearcats put on a dominant performance to clinch the title.

Baruch wasted no time in asserting their dominance, taking a commanding 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles contests. The duo of Tuna Nergizoglu and George Arteaga set the tone with an 8-1 win at second doubles, followed by Jordan Hernandez and Reda Ljazouli securing an 8-4 victory at third doubles. The team of Juan Paredes and Nicholas Santiago completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 comeback win at topflight doubles.

In singles play, Ljazouli and Santiago continued Baruch’s momentum with convincing victories, ultimately sealing the championship for the Bearcats. Nergizoglu, who was named the 2024 CUNYAC Player of the Year, was also honored as the Championship’s Most Valuable Player for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

With this win, Baruch has earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship Tournament, marking their 13th appearance at the prestigious event. The team now eagerly awaits the NCAA Selection Show to discover their first-round opponent as they set their sights on further success in the postseason.
