Duke Men’s Tennis Team Set to Host NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds

DURHAM – The No. 13 Duke men’s tennis team is gearing up to kick off the 2024 NCAA Team Championship this weekend at Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils will host No. 20 Alabama, No. 46 Charlotte, and UNC Asheville in the first and second rounds of the tournament.

In the first round on Friday, Duke will face off against UNC Asheville at 4 p.m., while Alabama takes on Charlotte at 1 p.m. The winners of these matches will advance to the NCAA Second Round on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Duke, led by head coach Ramsey Smith, has a strong history in the NCAA Team Championship, making their 31st appearance in the tournament. The Blue Devils have hosting duties for the second consecutive season and have a solid record as regional hosts, boasting a 27-3 record.

Key players to watch for Duke include First Team All-ACC selection Garrett Johns and Second Team All-ACC honoree Pedro Rodenas. Johns, ranked No. 21 nationally, has been a dominant force on court one, while Rodenas leads the team with 24 overall singles wins.

In doubles play, Duke’s pair of Johns and Rodenas are the top-ranked duo nationally and have been formidable against nationally ranked opponents.

The Blue Devils have a tough road ahead, with potential matchups against UNC Asheville, Alabama, and Charlotte. If Duke emerges victorious in the first round, they will face the winner of the Alabama-Charlotte match in the NCAA Second Round.
