Men’s Tennis Wins 54th MIAC Regular Season Title

The Gustavus men’s tennis team showcased their dominance in the MIAC with back-to-back 9-0 wins over Macalester and St. Scholastica. The Gusties completed their sweep of the regular season, finishing with a perfect 9-0 record in conference play.

In the match against Macalester, Gustavus started strong in doubles with Jack Bergmeyer and Tyler Haddorff securing an 8-1 win at No. 1. The team continued their momentum in singles, with Bergmeyer, Taona Mhwandagara, and others delivering impressive victories without dropping a set.

The Gusties carried their winning streak into the second match against St. Scholastica, claiming all three doubles matches and sweeping the singles matches as well. Players like Marco Siviero, Josh Christensen, and Caleb Fridinger showcased their skills with dominant performances.

Head Coach Tommy Valentini praised the team’s growth and unity throughout the season, emphasizing the importance of each player embracing their roles. With a record of 20-7 overall and 9-0 in the MIAC, the Gusties are now gearing up for the MIAC playoffs, where they will host the winner of the No. 4 and No. 5-seed matchup next Friday.

The team’s success and camaraderie have set them up as strong contenders in the upcoming playoffs, as they continue to strive for excellence both on and off the court.
