Mercado of the Mustangs Clinches CIF SJS D2 Singles Title in Tennis, Reports Tracy Press Sports

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Mountain House High School’s boys tennis team made history by winning the school’s first-ever CIF SJS Division 2 title, and they continued their success at the individual tournament with six players qualifying. Junior Eidan Mercado, the three-time Western Athletic Conference MVP and league singles champion, was seeded No. 1 and dominated his way to the championship game.

Mercado faced tough competition throughout the tournament, defeating top players from Sierra, Rodriguez, and Mira Loma on his path to the final. In a rematch against Rodriguez’s Danton Hsueh, who had handed Mercado his only regular-season loss, the junior showed resilience and determination. Despite falling behind early, Mercado rallied to win convincingly, claiming the D2 sectional singles title and securing his place in school sports history.

In the doubles competition, the No. 1 seed team of senior Daniel Zhang and junior Aadi Rajan also reached the championship game. After breezing through the early rounds, they faced a formidable pair from Rodriguez High in the final. Despite a strong start, Zhang and Rajan couldn’t maintain their momentum, ultimately losing in a third-set tiebreaker.

The end of the tournament marked the conclusion of a highly successful season for the Mustangs, with their impressive performance solidifying their status as one of the most successful teams in school history. Congratulations to all the players on their outstanding achievements!
