Metairie Winn-Dixie to be Replaced by Aldi Location | Business News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The popular Winn-Dixie grocery store located at 5901 Airline Drive in Metairie is set to close its doors in the coming weeks, as it transitions to become an Aldi store. This change comes after Aldi purchased all of Southeastern Grocers’ stores earlier this year, marking Aldi’s 16th location in Louisiana.

The news of the store’s closing sparked concern among the community, with a Facebook post receiving 400 comments expressing worry for the current employees. However, Southeastern Grocers assured that all store associates were given advanced notice of the closing and provided with options throughout the transition process.

Aldi, known for its low prices and store-brand products, has been rapidly expanding across the Gulf Coast, with plans to open 800 stores across the U.S. by 2028. The new Airline Drive location will be just 3.5 miles away from the existing Aldi store near Kenner on Veterans Boulevard.

With Aldi’s reputation for affordable prices and unique shopping experience, many are excited for the new addition to the area. While shoppers will still be able to find their favorite local brands like Luzianne Sweet Tea and Zatarain’s, they will also have access to Aldi’s exclusive offerings and environmentally-friendly practices, such as bringing reusable bags and renting shopping carts for a refundable quarter deposit.

As Aldi continues to expand its presence in the region, residents can look forward to more convenient shopping options and competitive prices in the future.
