Metal Shark, a Louisiana-based boat builder, has introduced two groundbreaking military vessels, Prowler and Frenzy, designed to meet the evolving warfighting needs of the U.S. military and its allies. Prowler, an autonomous, amphibious, and semi-submersible craft, represents a culmination of Metal Shark’s extensive experience in building vessels for military use.
According to Metal Shark CEO Chris Allard, Prowler incorporates proven technology to enhance lethality and versatility while offering simplified launch and recovery capabilities. The 30-foot Prowler is powered by a 300-horsepower Volvo Penta D6 Aquamatic engine, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 35 knots and cover a range of 500 nautical miles.
One of Prowler’s unique features is its ability to operate in a semi-submerged state, reducing its operational profile and improving stability for surveillance and weapons systems. The vessel can carry multiple payloads, including smart loitering drones and up to twelve Frenzy amphibious micro USVs.
Frenzy, the high-performance micro USV developed by Metal Shark, complements Prowler’s capabilities by providing over-the-horizon surveillance and reconnaissance. With a payload capacity of up to 14 pounds, Frenzy can loiter in a semi-submerged state, enhancing its stealth capabilities.
Both Prowler and Frenzy will be showcased at Sea-Air-Space 2024 in National Harbor, Md., before undergoing further testing and development at Metal Shark’s facilities in Louisiana. Allard expressed his admiration for the team’s dedication and innovation in bringing these cutting-edge vessels to life, emphasizing the importance of pushing boundaries in military technology.
The debut of Prowler and Frenzy marks a significant advancement in autonomous and amphibious military craft, showcasing Metal Shark’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of modern warfare.
