Mets hit 3 home runs, yet lose to red-hot Guardians

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Cleveland Guardians continued their winning ways on Tuesday night, defeating the New York Mets 7-6 in a thrilling matchup at Progressive Field. José Ramírez led the charge for the Guardians with a two-run homer and an RBI double, while David Fry added his first career pinch-hit home run to contribute to the win.

The Guardians, who now have a five-game win streak, boast the fourth-best record in the majors at 32-17. Their victory over the Mets marks their sixth consecutive win at home, solidifying their position as the AL Central leaders.

Despite a strong offensive effort from the Mets, including two-run homers from Jeff McNeil and Starling Marte, the Guardians managed to hold on for the win. Nick Sandlin and Emmanuel Clase played key roles in securing the victory, with Clase recording his MLB-best 15th save of the season.

The game was not without its challenges for Cleveland, as they had to rely on six relievers after starting pitcher Xzavion Curry was pulled in the fifth inning. The Mets also faced pitching struggles, with starter Adrian Houser giving up six runs in five innings.

Looking ahead, the Mets will send LHP Jose Quintana to the mound to face off against Guardians RHP Triston McKenzie in the series finale. Quintana, who has a stellar 1.13 ERA at Progressive Field, will look to lead the Mets to a much-needed win after dropping the first two games of the series.
