The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) recently held its Annual State of the Travel & Tourism Industry presentation at the Norwegian Cruise Line terminal in PortMiami. The event highlighted the success of Miami-Dade County’s tourism sector and showcased last year’s marketing programs that contributed to strong momentum in 2023 and early 2024.

Over 650 industry partners, government officials, and community leaders attended the event to learn about key updates on the region’s economic powerhouse. The presentation coincided with National Travel and Tourism Week, emphasizing the vital role of tourism in economic development, job creation, and improving residents’ quality of life.

David Whitaker, President and CEO of GMCVB, reported that Greater Miami and Miami Beach attracted over 27.2 million visitors in 2023, generating $21.1 billion in spending. Whitaker attributed the growth to effective marketing strategies that highlight the destination’s appeal.

Julissa Kepner, GMCVB Board Chair, emphasized the destination’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in her address. The event also highlighted key industry highlights from 2023, including the economic impact of tourism on Miami-Dade County.

The GMCVB plans to continue its success with new initiatives like the “Brought to You by Tourism” campaign and expects record numbers in 2024. Miami International Airport and PortMiami reported increased traveler volumes, while the hotel occupancy rate in Greater Miami and Miami Beach led the nation in the first quarter of 2024. The meetings and conventions sector also thrived, with major conventions at the Miami Beach Convention Center generating over $195 million in economic impact by May 2024.
