Microsoft unveiled its latest offerings, the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, just a day before the Build 2024 developer conference. These new laptops are powered by the Snapdragon X Elite or X Plus ARM processor and are the first personal computers from the company to feature the Copilot+ feature.
During the event, Microsoft also announced that OEM partners like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung will be launching their Copilot+-powered PCs in select markets starting June 18, with a starting price of $999.
The new 13-inch Surface Pro is said to be up to 90% faster than the previous Intel-based model, while the Surface Laptop comes in two sizes with a 13.5-inch or 15-inch display, claimed to be 80% faster than the previous generation model.
According to Microsoft, Copilot+ PCs are the fastest and most intelligent Windows PCs ever built, with powerful new silicon capable of 40+ TOPS, all-day battery life, and access to advanced AI models. These PCs can remember user actions, generate AI images, and provide real-time translations in over 40 languages.
To enable these new capabilities, Microsoft has introduced a new system architecture that combines the power of the CPU, GPU, and a new high-performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
Copilot+-branded PCs, powered by Snapdragon processors, are said to outperform the 15-inch MacBook Air in sustained multithreaded performance and offer all-day battery life. Windows 11 is optimized for native ARM64 experiences, including popular apps like Teams, PowerPoint, and Spotify.
Pre-orders for Copilot+-powered PCs will begin in the US, with devices based on Intel and AMD CPUs and NVIDIA graphics coming soon. Microsoft is pushing the boundaries of personal computing with these innovative new devices.
