Microsoft introduces new AI software tools to stay ahead in the competitive market | Tech News

At a developer conference in Seattle, Chief Executive Satya Nadella promoted new application programming interfaces, or APIs, that make it easier for developers to tap into AI technology offered by Microsoft. Microsoft is racing against Alphabet, Amazon.com, and Apple to dominate the emerging field of AI-focused technology.

During his keynote address at the Build conference, Nadella highlighted the company’s efforts to empower developers to change the world around us with AI capabilities. Microsoft announced that 1.8 million developers are now using Github Copilot, the company’s generative AI tool designed to enhance productivity for computer programmers.

Microsoft also detailed new features for its Copilot AI software, focusing on business productivity applications such as email and Teams video and text chat product. The company’s stock rose by 1.2% to $430.67 on Tuesday afternoon, reaching a record high of $432.97 earlier in the session, reflecting a 14% gain in 2024.

In a move aimed at developers, Microsoft announced that it would offer its cloud computing customers a platform of AMD AI chips to compete with Nvidia. The platform of AMD chips utilizes networking technology from Nvidia called Infiniband to connect the processors.

Additionally, Microsoft’s chief technology officer Kevin Scott revealed that OpenAI’s new GPT4-o model, running on Microsoft’s infrastructure, is 12 times more cost-effective for developers compared to earlier versions. Microsoft, the largest investor in OpenAI, incorporates the AI heavyweight’s technology into its products.

Microsoft also introduced a line of Copilot+ personal computers with AI features, including software that enables users to search through their past actions in various software applications. The new computers feature Arm-based processors from Qualcomm.
