Microsoft Unveils New AI-Powered Copilot+ PCs
Microsoft has taken a major step in the AI technology race with the release of its new Copilot+ PCs, designed to be the fastest and most intelligent Windows PCs ever built. The announcement was made by Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella at an event in Redmond, Wash. on Monday.
The Copilot+ PCs are equipped with powerful new silicon capable of an incredible 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second), ensuring all-day battery life and access to the most advanced AI models. One of the standout features of these new laptops is the “Recall” function, which tracks all user activity on the computer, allowing users to virtually access past actions and information.
Microsoft emphasized that the Copilot+ PCs are designed to organize information based on individual experiences, making it easier for users to find what they’re looking for quickly and intuitively. The laptops will be available starting at $999 and will launch on various brands such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, and HP on June 18.
In addition, Microsoft announced that the Copilot+ PCs will eventually feature OpenAI’s new AI model, GPT-4o, for more natural voice conversations. This news comes shortly after OpenAI released a demo of its “Sky” voice assistance, which drew attention from actress Scarlett Johansson.
Johansson claimed that the voice in the demo sounded “eerily similar” to her own and revealed that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had approached her about voicing an AI assistant in the past, a request she declined. Johansson has since taken legal action to request OpenAI to remove the “Sky” voice.
The release of the Copilot+ PCs marks a significant advancement in AI technology and showcases Microsoft’s commitment to innovation in the field.
