Millions of Australians Set to Receive $257 Bill

As winter approaches, Aussie households are bracing themselves for a hefty increase in their electricity bills. According to a recent study by Finder, running just one heater could add an average of $257 to your electricity bill, with gas heaters costing even more at $274 on average. However, there are ways to save on your energy costs.

Finder utilities expert Mariam Gabaji highlighted that heating typically makes up 30 to 40 percent of a household’s overall energy bill. She emphasized the importance of reviewing your energy plan and potentially switching providers to secure a cheaper rate. With many households already feeling the pinch of tight budgets, finding ways to reduce energy costs is crucial.

In a positive development, starting July 1, every Aussie household will receive a $300 energy bill rebate, distributed in quarterly instalments of $75 over the financial year. Additionally, Queensland households will benefit from a $1,000 energy rebate, while Western Australian households will receive a $400 credit on their bills.

Moreover, changes in power prices are on the horizon, with adjustments set to take effect on July 1. The Australian Energy Regulator and Essential Services Commission have released final default market offers, impacting the maximum amount electricity retailers can charge households. While power prices will decrease for residents in NSW, South Australia, and Victoria, Queenslanders can expect a rise in their energy rates.
