Minister Jobe Leads West Africa Ecotourism Network Annual Summit in West Africa

The West Africa Ecotourism Network (WAEN) concluded its two-day Annual Summit in Banjul with a grand dinner at Tamala Resort. The event, which took place at Bakadaji Hotel in Kotu, was graced by Honourable Abdoulie Jobe, the Gambia Minister for Tourism and Culture (MOTC), who welcomed esteemed members of the network to the Smiling Coast of Africa.

Minister Jobe highlighted the importance of ecotourism and the need for innovative approaches in developing a sustainable tourism eco-system. He emphasized the significance of capacity building, customer care, marketing, cultural diversity training, and financial support for sustainable tourism development.

The summit also delved into topics such as sustainable and responsible tourism, diversification tourism, and community-based tourism. Minister Jobe expressed gratitude to WAEN for choosing The Gambia as the host country and urged continued collaboration to promote ecotourism in the region.

Ma’am Ola Wright, Founder of WAEN, expressed delight in the shared dedication of delegates towards preserving the planet’s natural wonders through responsible ecotourism. She emphasized the importance of protecting the environment and local communities while exploring exotic destinations.

The summit featured presentations from Ma’am Loiuse Twining-Ward from the World Bank and received support from organizations like the World Bank, PPIAF, WACA, PROBLUE, and WATO. The event concluded with a call to celebrate and support sustainable travel initiatives that prioritize environmental conservation, community engagement, and cultural preservation.
