Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno has addressed the issue of over-tourism in Bali, stating that it is not a problem across the entire island. Speaking at a ministry gathering in Jakarta, Uno explained that the issue is mainly concentrated in southern Bali, particularly in Nusa Dua and South Bali, where the carrying capacity has been significantly burdened.

To alleviate this burden, Uno highlighted the potential for eco-tourism development in other regions of Bali. By promoting new tourism developments in the western, northern, and eastern parts of the island, the ministry aims to distribute tourists more evenly and reduce the strain on popular areas like South Bali and Nusa Dua.

Uno emphasized the importance of infrastructure and accessibility readiness to encourage tourists to explore other parts of Bali. The ministry plans to organize events and devise new promotions to attract more visitors to these lesser-known destinations.

One successful example of this strategy is the Banyuwangi-West Bali travel promotion, which has drawn more tourists to West Bali by crossing the Bali Strait from Banyuwangi in East Java.

Overall, the ministry’s efforts aim to diversify tourist attractions in Bali and ensure a more balanced distribution of visitors across the island. By promoting natural, artificial, and cultural attractions in other regions, Bali can continue to thrive as a top tourist destination without succumbing to over-tourism in specific areas.
