Minnewaska Boys Tennis Continues Dominance with Home Triangular Sweep

GLENWOOD — The Minnewaska boys tennis team showcased their prowess on the court with a stellar performance at a home triangular on April 30. The Lakers secured a convincing 7-0 victory over New London-Spicer and followed it up with a 4-0 win against Osakis before rain interrupted play.

The triumph over New London-Spicer allowed Minnewaska to reclaim the West Central Conference title, a feat they had last achieved in 2023. With the win over Osakis, the Lakers improved their season record to an impressive 16-1.

Head coach Tara Reichmann expressed her surprise at the team’s exceptional performance this season, attributing their success to the camaraderie among players. Despite having a young roster with only one senior and two juniors, the Lakers have excelled due to the support and encouragement within the team.

The 2024 season holds promise for Minnewaska, reminiscent of their historic 2022 campaign when they made their first-ever state tournament appearance. Key players like Connor Quelle and Tenzin Dahl, who were instrumental in the team’s previous success, continue to drive the Lakers towards their goal of returning to the state tournament.

Reichmann highlighted the team’s resilience and fighting spirit, emphasizing the importance of self-belief for the young players. As Minnewaska gears up for future challenges, their upcoming triangular at St. John’s Prep on May 2 will be another opportunity to showcase their talent and determination.

Meanwhile, the Osakis boys tennis team faced setbacks at the triangular, with weather interruptions affecting their matches against New London-Spicer and Minnewaska. Despite the challenges, the Silverstreaks displayed a positive attitude and determination, with coach Ryan Maddock commending their efforts.

As the season progresses, both Minnewaska and Osakis look ahead to their upcoming matches, aiming to continue their pursuit of success on the tennis courts.
