National Senior Health and Fitness Week is in full swing at the Missouri Family YMCA in Bismarck, ND. The event is drawing in men and women of retirement age who are looking to prioritize their health and wellness.

Attendee Cyndi Albrecht shared, “When you get older, you kind of have to look ahead because you know things are going to happen as you age. That’s why I came.” The event features 36 vendors offering services for those aged 50 and over, providing valuable resources on insurance, legal help, adaptive equipment, and health services.

YMCA Fitness Program Coordinator Jennifer Bandy highlighted the importance of the health fair, stating, “We have 36 vendors who provide services for those that are 50 and over in the community, and they are here demonstrating what they can offer to people.” The fair offers resources that seniors may not typically find at the gym, such as health insurance, assisted living options, and adaptive technology.

Albrecht emphasized the importance of knowledge in preparing for the future, stating, “To me, knowledge is power, and knowledge helps you prepare better. It’s just important because today, there are so many different options and services that I had no idea existed.”

In addition to the valuable information provided by vendors, the event also serves as a social gathering for seniors to connect with friends and neighbors. The wellness program includes presentations on topics like fraud prevention, emphasizing the importance of staying informed and engaged in healthy living practices.

For seniors looking to prioritize their health and wellness, the National Senior Health and Fitness Week at the Missouri Family YMCA offers a wealth of resources and opportunities for socialization and education.
