Bliss restaurant in Florissant, Missouri, is making waves with its unique age restriction policy that only allows patrons aged 30 and older in the evenings. Located just 20 miles from St. Louis, this upscale eatery is aiming to create a more refined and drama-free environment for adult diners to enjoy happy hour.
Owner Marvin Pate describes Bliss as a “home away from home” and is standing by the controversial policy despite facing some backlash. The restaurant, which serves upscale West African and Caribbean cuisine, opened just last month and has already garnered attention for its strict age requirements.
While some patrons have criticized the age restrictions on Yelp, others have praised the peaceful and mature atmosphere it creates. One reviewer mentioned, “I can actually hear myself think in here and the vibes are immaculate.”
Assistant Manager Erica Rhodes explained that Bliss is a place for older individuals to relax, enjoy good food, and avoid the drama often associated with younger crowds. The restaurant is open from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays, with the age restriction only applying after 7:00 p.m.
Bliss’ policy is reminiscent of a bar in Ohio that implemented a similar age requirement to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for its clientele. As more establishments adopt these age restrictions, it raises questions about the balance between inclusivity and creating a specific atmosphere for patrons.
