Mistakes lead to defeat as Petoskey eliminates Esky | Latest News, Sports, and Job Updates

The Escanaba baseball team faced a tough loss in their third postseason game of the season against Petoskey. Despite a strong start from sophomore pitcher Lennox Peacock, the Eskymos fell short with a final score of 3-0.

Peacock showed promise in the early innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three batters. However, errors from seniors Ben Johnson and Chase Cloutier proved costly, allowing Petoskey to take a 1-0 lead off an unearned run.

The Eskymos struggled to generate offense, mustering only three base hits throughout the game. Despite a single from Nick Chiu in the third inning, Escanaba was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Defensively, the Eskymos faced challenges with errors and Petoskey’s aggressive baserunning. However, strong plays from Eli Gardner and Nolan Bink helped keep the game within reach.

In the end, Petoskey secured the win with two insurance runs in the seventh inning, extending their lead to 3-0. Escanaba’s Bon LaChance, Chiu, and Brody Ison each contributed a base hit, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Petoskey’s lead.

Peacock pitched a solid game, despite the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

The loss marks the end of Escanaba’s 2024 season, finishing with a record of 18-15. Despite the disappointing outcome, the team showed resilience and determination throughout the game.
