Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Mitchell Board of Education recently reviewed the K-12 budgets for the upcoming school year, giving insight into the financial outlook for the Mitchell School District. Superintendent Joe Childs expressed that while there are still some unknowns, such as grant opportunities, the overall numbers are in line with previous years.

The proposed budget for the 2024-25 school year shows increases in various funds compared to the previous year. The general fund is at $23,962,794, the capital outlay fund is at $5,225,750, and the special education fund is at $6,808,099, among others. Additionally, the state announced a 4% increase in education funding, with a mandate for the extra funds to go towards teacher compensation.

During the meeting, the board also approved the purchase of a new activities vehicle, with the Chevrolet Suburban being the recommended choice. Furthermore, the board declared several items as surplus property, which are currently stored in the district maintenance building.

Upcoming personnel moves were also discussed, including new hires and resignations within the school district and Mitchell Technical College. The board is set to reconvene on June 10 for their next meeting, which will be livestreamed on the Mitchell Republic website for public viewing. Stay tuned for more updates on the budget and other developments within the Mitchell School District.
