Mitchell High School boys tennis secured a thrilling victory against Watertown in a dual match on Friday, showcasing their dominance in singles play. The Kernels emerged victorious with a final score of 5-4, thanks to stellar performances in the lower flights.

In doubles competition, Mitchell’s Flight 3 team of Cooper Star and Sutton Thompson clinched a straight-set victory over their opponents from Watertown. However, Watertown managed to secure wins in the other two doubles matchups, showcasing a tough fight from both teams.

The singles matches proved to be the turning point for Mitchell, as they claimed victory in four out of the six varsity matches. Matthew Mauszycki’s impressive win in a three-set match at No. 3 singles set the tone for the team. Other standout performances came from Star, Loken, and Dannenbring, who secured wins in their respective singles matches.

Watertown put up a strong fight at the top of the flight chart, with Sneden and Evan Meester securing victories in the top two singles matches. Despite the tough competition, Mitchell’s overall performance in singles play propelled them to a well-deserved victory.

With this win, Mitchell’s season record improves to 16-5, with an 8-2 record in ESD play. The team looks forward to their upcoming matches, including a road triangular date against Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Harrisburg. The ESD tennis meet has been relocated to the Huether Family Match Pointe facility in Sioux Falls due to weather conditions, ensuring an exciting tournament indoors.
