Mitchell Republic: Kernel girls dominate Pierre Invitational golf tournament

The Mitchell High School girls golf team continues to dominate the competition, securing another sweep at the Pierre Invitational on Tuesday. With a final team score of 320, the Kernels claimed both team and individual honors at the 10-team event held at Hillsview Golf Club.

Allison Meyerink led the charge for Mitchell, shooting a 1-under round of 70 to secure first place in the invitational. Her teammate, Maddie Childs, wasn’t far behind, finishing in second place with a 1-over round of 72. Childs showcased her skills with five birdies on the day.

The Kernels’ strong performance didn’t stop there, as Quinn Dannenbring, Anna Eliason, Mia Larson, and Londyn Hajek also contributed to the team’s success with solid rounds.

Aberdeen Central put up a good fight, finishing in second place with a team score of 333, while Watertown secured third place with a score of 336. Rapid City Stevens and Pierre rounded out the top five.

Winner Area also competed in the event, finishing in eighth place with a team score of 432. Gracie Root and Ava Craven led the way for the Warriors with impressive performances.

Next up for Mitchell is the Hub City Girls Invite at Moccasin Creek Country Club in Aberdeen. The Kernels will look to continue their winning streak and showcase their talent on the course.
