Recently, His Highness was honored with the prestigious ‘Global Humanitarian Personality’ award by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), underscoring the global recognition and appreciation for his role in humanitarian relief efforts. This award solidifies his status as one of the most notable figures in the history of humanitarian work, showcasing his dedication to making a positive impact on the world.
Health Initiatives
President Mohamed bin Zayed’s commitment to advancing healthcare globally has been a cornerstone of his humanitarian efforts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he swiftly extended a helping hand by inaugurating hospitals, providing vaccines, and sending aid to countries in need without discrimination.
The UAE’s response to the pandemic included the delivery of over 2,000 tonnes of medical supplies to 135 countries through approximately 200 flights. Field hospitals and mobile clinics were set up in several nations, and a donation of US$10 million in-kind assistance was made to the World Health Organization.
Furthermore, His Highness launched the Reaching the Last Mile Fund (RLMF) in 2017, with a focus on eradicating neglected tropical diseases in Africa. The Fund has provided over 100 million treatments and trained 1.3 million healthcare workers, showcasing the UAE’s commitment to global health initiatives.
Operation Chivalrous Knight
In February 2023, President Mohamed bin Zayed initiated Operation Chivalrous Knight 2 to support the people of Syria and Türkiye after a devastating earthquake. The operation, which lasted until July of the same year, resulted in the rescue of dozens of individuals and the treatment of over 13,000 cases.
Humanitarian assistance amounting to 15,164 tonnes was provided through an air bridge, with additional aid transported via cargo ships. Following the success of the operation, His Highness ordered the commencement of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 to support the Palestinian people in Gaza, demonstrating the UAE’s unwavering commitment to aiding those in need.
Natural Disasters Response
The UAE’s response to natural disasters worldwide under President Mohamed bin Zayed’s leadership has been swift and comprehensive. From providing aid to countries affected by storms and earthquakes to supporting hospitals and medical teams in crisis zones, the UAE has consistently demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian relief efforts.
