Montreal police apprehend suspect in Plateau triple homicide

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Montreal police have made an arrest in connection with the tragic triple homicide that occurred last week in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. A 19-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, is set to appear in court on Thursday afternoon to face a second-degree murder charge.

The victims of this senseless act of violence were 15, 23, and 25 years old. The 15-year-old victim’s identity is being withheld due to their status as a minor, while the other victims have been identified as Alexandre Vatamanu and Ulrick Peterson Célestin.

According to Major Jean-Sébastien Caron of Montreal’s major crimes division, evidence suggests that two of the victims were involved in the killings, although it was not specified which victims were responsible for which murders. The motive behind the brawl that led to this tragedy is still under investigation by the City of Montreal Police Department’s major crimes unit.

The fight, which took place in a parking lot between St-André and Mentana streets, near La Fontaine Park, was described by witnesses as chaotic and deadly. José Aquino, who witnessed part of the altercation, reported seeing weapons being used during the brawl, including a wrench and a knife that resembled a small machete.

The father of one of the victims, Ulrick Peterson Célestin, expressed his grief and disbelief at the loss of his son, describing him as a hardworking and kind individual with a young daughter. He questioned how a simple dispute could escalate to such a tragic outcome, leaving three families in mourning.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. The community is reeling from the shock of this violent event, as they try to make sense of the senseless loss of life. As the case unfolds in court, the city of Montreal mourns the loss of three young individuals and grapples with the aftermath of this heartbreaking tragedy.
