A Montreal-based company, Juno Technologies Inc., is making waves in the medical industry with their innovative solution to menstrual pain relief. Co-founder Nanette Sene, a multi-disciplinary professional with a background in physical therapy, mechanical engineering, and industrial engineering, developed a portable device that inhibits the feeling of pain associated with menstruation.
Sene’s inspiration for the product came from her own personal experience and the lack of innovative solutions on the market. The company’s mission goes beyond just providing pain relief; it aims to create a safe space for women to openly discuss their experiences with menstrual pain in professional settings.
Recently, Juno Technologies Inc. was awarded the top prize at the Black Pitch Contest, organized by the Black Entrepreneurs and Businesses of Canada Society (BEBC). The $25,000 reward will help the company further develop and bring their product to market. This win is significant as it highlights the challenges faced by Black entrepreneurs in accessing funding and support for their businesses.
Despite the success of Juno Technologies Inc., statistics show that women entrepreneurs receive only three percent of available venture capital funding in Canada. The Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce has launched the Flip the Script program to help women entrepreneurs overcome the funding gap and secure investments.
Juno Technologies Inc. conducted a pilot study with a gynecologist, which showed a 79 percent reduction in pain for participants using their device. The positive results have fueled the company’s determination to bring their product to market and expand its use to help individuals with various types of pelvic pain.
Sene’s ultimate goal is to obtain clearance from Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by early 2025 and make the product widely available to women everywhere. With the support of the Black Pitch Contest prize and the growing recognition of their innovative solution, Juno Technologies Inc. is poised to revolutionize the way menstrual pain is managed.
