Morgan McCafferty Named Head Coach of Georgia Southern

Georgia Southern University has announced the appointment of Morgan McCafferty as the new head coach of the women’s swimming and diving team. McCafferty, a former standout at the University of Nebraska, brings a wealth of experience to the role after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Idaho for the past three seasons.

During her time at Idaho, McCafferty played a key role in helping the Vandals set seven program records. One of her notable achievements was coaching Zoe Froh, who qualified for the Canadian Swimming Trials in 2022. McCafferty’s dedication to program logistics, practice management, and recruiting has been instrumental in the success of the Idaho team.

A native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, McCafferty was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten athlete at Indiana before transferring to Nebraska. She excelled in her senior year at Nebraska, achieving the team’s best Big Ten Championships finish and qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. McCafferty holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s in higher education administration from Nebraska.

Director of Athletics Jared Benko expressed his excitement about McCafferty’s appointment, praising her dynamic energy and proven leadership in the sport of swimming and diving. McCafferty’s ability to inspire and empower student-athletes to reach their full potential both in and out of the pool was a key factor in her selection for the role.

McCafferty takes over from Allyson Sweeney, who stepped down as head coach in April after two seasons. The university is looking forward to the positive impact McCafferty will have on the team and the continued development of its student-athletes.
