Mark Moschella, the legendary coach of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School’s Lady Marauders, has been selected for induction into the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Moschella, who coached for 26 years, holds the record for the most wins in Blair County history with 603 victories.
Under Moschella’s leadership, the Lady Marauders achieved remarkable success, winning 13 district titles, reaching 13 PIAA final fours, and capturing four state championships. His coaching career was marked by consistency, with his teams going 25 seasons without a losing record and accumulating 30-plus victories in four different seasons.
Moschella’s coaching philosophy focused on building a strong program that emphasized values such as teamwork, dedication, and respect. He instilled in his players the “five priorities” of their program: God, Family, Academics, Basketball Team, and Good Social Life. Winning a state championship was a goal, but not a priority for Moschella, who believed in teaching life lessons through basketball.
Throughout his coaching career, Moschella’s impact extended beyond the basketball court. Former players praised him for his ability to push them to be their best both on and off the court. Moschella’s induction into the Hall of Fame is seen as a tribute to everyone involved in the program, highlighting the lasting legacy he has left on the Blair County sports community.
The Blair County Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where Moschella will be honored alongside other inductees, is set to take place on Saturday, April 13. Tickets for the event are available for purchase, with limited availability remaining. The ceremony will feature guest speaker Julius Erving and emcee Bob Pompeani, making it a must-attend event for sports enthusiasts in the area.
