Reading Time: < 1 minute

In the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League season, despite Mumbai Indians being eliminated from the playoff race, their star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been in exceptional form. Bumrah, known for his lethal pace and accuracy, has emerged as the joint-leading wicket-taker of the tournament with an impressive tally of 20 wickets.

This achievement puts Bumrah in an elite group of bowlers who have managed to claim 20 or more wickets in a single IPL season multiple times. One such bowler is his former MI teammate Lasith Malinga, who has achieved this feat an incredible four times in his IPL career.

Malinga’s exceptional performances include being the highest wicket-taker in the 2011 season with 28 wickets at an astonishing economy rate of 5.95. He continued his dominance in the following seasons, claiming 22 and 20 wickets in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Malinga’s stellar bowling also played a crucial role in MI’s title-winning campaign in 2015.

Joining Malinga in the list of bowlers with four instances of 20-plus wickets in a season is none other than Jasprit Bumrah himself. Bumrah achieved this milestone in the seasons of 2017, 2020, 2021, and the current 2024 season. His consistent performance and ability to pick up crucial wickets make him a valuable asset for any team.

Additionally, Yuzvendra Chahal, the highest wicket-taker in IPL history, has achieved this feat five times in his IPL career. With 20-plus wickets in multiple seasons, these bowlers have showcased their skill and consistency in the high-pressure environment of the IPL.
