Altoona High School’s baseball team faced a nail-biting game against State College, resulting in a thrilling 14-11 extra-inning victory. The game, which was moved to a Monday morning start to avoid the eclipse forecasted for later in the day, saw Altoona initially take a commanding lead, only to have State College mount an incredible comeback, tying the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a three-run home run by Jack Coleman.

However, Altoona quickly regained control in the eighth inning, with Dante LaRocco’s triple and subsequent runs by Aaron Smearman and Tanner Stroup putting them back in the lead. LaRocco, who had a standout performance with five hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored, led the team to victory.

Despite the intense back-and-forth, Altoona coach Tom Smith commended his team for their resilience and ability to close out the game. The win marked Altoona’s second victory over their District 6 rivals this season, setting a positive tone for the rest of their games.

The game, which saw both teams battle through challenging weather conditions and momentum swings, showcased the determination and skill of both squads. With the win, Altoona looks ahead to the rest of the season with confidence, hoping to carry the momentum from their victories over State College into future matchups.
