Iron Mountain Girls Soccer Team Falls to Marquette in Tough Match

Iron Mountain, MI – The Iron Mountain girls varsity soccer team faced a tough challenge on Monday as they took on Marquette at Mountaineer Stadium. Despite their best efforts, the Mountaineers were unable to secure a victory, ultimately falling to the Sentinels with a final score of 8-0.

Head coach Carly Lambert acknowledged the team’s effort, stating, “Despite the score, they did play hard. We’ve got a lot of work to do in terms of being first to the ball. That’s pretty much what’s been killing us the whole time.”

Marquette took an early lead in the game, with senior Ellarie Thierry scoring the first goal just seven minutes in. The Sentinels continued to dominate, adding more goals to their tally before halftime.

Iron Mountain goalkeeper Emily Copley put up a valiant effort, making several key saves throughout the match. Lambert praised Copley’s performance, calling it “a game of a lifetime.”

Unfortunately, the Mountaineers faced additional challenges as sophomore Olivia Fleming suffered an injury in the second half and had to be helped off the field. Coach Bethany Merrill expressed hope for Fleming’s speedy recovery, noting her importance to the team.

Looking ahead, Iron Mountain is set to face Houghton and Kingsford in upcoming matches as they strive for their first win of the season. Despite the tough loss to Marquette, the team remains determined and focused on improving their performance in future games.
