Ozan Baris, the standout sophomore on Michigan State’s men’s tennis team, concluded his historic season with a tough loss in the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championship on May 24. Despite a valiant effort, Baris fell short against Filip Planinsek of The University of Alabama in a closely contested match.

Reflecting on his defeat, Baris expressed his disappointment but remained optimistic about his future in the sport. “I honestly saw myself winning it,” Baris shared at a press conference, highlighting his determination and belief in his abilities.

While the loss took a toll on Baris’s confidence, he quickly shifted his focus back to training and improving his game. His coach, Harry Jadun, praised Baris’s mental resilience and aggressive playing style, emphasizing the young athlete’s potential for a successful career in professional tennis.

Although there are speculations about Baris’s potential departure for the professional tour, the talented player expressed his commitment to Michigan State and his desire to elevate the program further. Baris aims to build a strong tennis culture at MSU and leave a lasting legacy for future players to follow.

Despite the setback, Baris’s achievements this season have been remarkable, including being named Big Ten Player of the Year and achieving a top 25 ranking for MSU’s tennis program. As he prepares for the upcoming offseason, Baris remains focused on his goal of winning championships and continuing to make strides in his tennis career.

With a bright future ahead, Baris’s determination and passion for the sport are sure to lead him to even greater success in the world of tennis.
