MultiVersus makes a comeback as a free-to-play platform fighter set in the Warner Bros. universe

The highly anticipated free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus is making a comeback today, much to the excitement of fans. Published by Warner Bros. Games and developed by Player First Games, MultiVersus features a diverse roster of popular characters from Warner Bros. Discovery franchises.

New characters like The Joker from DC, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, and Banana Guard from Adventure Time are joining the fray at launch, with Agent Smith from The Matrix set to arrive later in Season 1. The game initially debuted in July 2022 on Unreal Engine 4, attracting millions of players during its beta phase.

After being taken down in June 2023 for redevelopment, MultiVersus is now back with a revamped version on Unreal Engine 5. The developer has added a player-versus-environment mode and new moves for each character based on feedback from the open beta. Players can expect their progress and currency to carry over to the relaunched version.

Warner Bros. Games is banking on MultiVersus to establish a dedicated player base through its live-service model. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store. Cross-play and cross-progression are supported across all platforms.

Additionally, MultiVersus introduces a new PvE mode called “Rifts,” offering a different gameplay experience outside of competitive PvP matches. Whether playing solo or cooperatively online, players can use Rifts to hone their skills and test different characters. Fans who participated in the open beta can access their previous progress and content by logging into their Warner Bros. Games Account.
