Former Indian cricketer Dhawal Kulkarni has been appointed as the bowling mentor for the Mumbai Ranji team for the upcoming 2024-25 season. The announcement was made after a meeting of the Mumbai Cricket Association’s apex council.
Kulkarni, who represented India in 12 ODIs and two T20Is between 2014 and 2016, retired from all forms of cricket after helping Mumbai clinch the Ranji Trophy for the 42nd time in the previous season. With an impressive record of 285 wickets in 96 first-class games, 223 wickets in 130 List A matches, and 154 scalps in 162 T20 matches, Kulkarni brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
In addition to Kulkarni’s appointment, the MCA’s apex council also decided to honor legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on his 75th birthday on July 10. The council unanimously approved the proposal put forth by MCA president Amol Kale.
Kulkarni, who recently worked as a commentator in the Indian Premier League, expressed his desire to give back to the game of cricket after his retirement in March. He mentioned his interest in taking up coaching roles in the future, stating that everything he does will revolve around cricket.
Furthermore, the MCA announced plans to release a stamp and a coffee table book to commemorate the iconic Wankhede Stadium’s 50th anniversary this year. The stadium has been a historic venue for cricket matches and holds a special place in the hearts of fans and players alike.
