Auburn’s Finn Murgett and Raul Dobai Secure Victory in NCAA Doubles Championship

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Auburn doubles team of Finn Murgett and Raul Dobai emerged victorious in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Tuesday.

In a thrilling match against Columbia’s Theo Winegar and Michael Zheng, Murgett and Dobai, the 21st ranked doubles team in the nation, faced tough competition from the 16th ranked duo. After a slow start and a tight first set, the Auburn pair managed to turn the tide in their favor, winning the second set and forcing a decisive 10-point tiebreaker.

With impressive teamwork and skill, Murgett and Dobai dominated the tiebreaker, winning 10-5 and securing their spot in the second round. Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds praised their performance, highlighting their ability to make their opponents play on the return games.

Next up, Murgett and Dobai will face Robert Cash and JJ Tracy of Ohio State in the second round, with the opportunity to earn ITA Doubles All-American honors on the line.

Prior to their doubles victory, Murgett also competed in the NCAA Singles Championship but fell short against TCU’s Jake Fearnley. Despite the loss, Murgett finished the season with an impressive 20-4 overall singles record and solidified his place in Auburn program history with 84 singles victories.
