Eric Jones, a former teacher and coach, never imagined he would end up owning a moving company. However, more than 20 years ago, the opportunity presented itself, and he took the leap. Today, Jones is the CEO and co-owner of Adamantine Spine Moving, a company with offices in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines.

Jones’s journey into the moving business began unexpectedly. After completing a non-fiction writing program in Iowa City, he found himself at a crossroads, unsure of his next steps. A friend who had started a moving company offered Jones the chance to take over the business, and without any prior experience in the industry, he decided to give it a shot.

Over the years, Jones, along with his partner Bill Hoke, has grown Adamantine Spine Moving into a successful venture. The company prides itself on its sustainability initiatives, using solar panels to power its warehouse and running its trucks on recycled ag product biodiesel. Additionally, they specialize in long-distance moves, a unique offering for a smaller moving company.
