NANTA partners with 400 travel agents to promote tourism sites in Badagry

Over 400 Nigerian and foreign travel agents embarked on a tour of iconic tourism sites in Badagry, showcasing the town as a top global tourist destination. The tour, organized by the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies, aimed to promote the historical significance of Badagry and boost Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.

The travel agents visited key attractions such as The First Storey Building in Nigeria, Mobee Slave Relics Museum, Seriki Abass Brazilian Barracoon, and the Point of No Return. Professional tour guide Anago Osho provided insights into the harrowing experiences of African captives during the slave trade era, highlighting the brutal conditions they endured.

Singaporean travel agent Catherine Kryst expressed excitement and admiration for Badagry’s unique history of slavery, pledging to collaborate with local agents to market the ancient town. Namibian High Commissioner Humphery Geiseb reflected on the painful legacy of slavery and emphasized the importance of learning from the past to foster kindness and unity among Africans.

Managing Director of Coastline Nigeria Ltd., Isa Yelma, called on the Lagos State Government to enhance safety measures for tourists, suggesting the provision of comfortable flying boats with proper life jackets. He stressed the importance of ensuring a pleasant and secure experience for visitors exploring Badagry’s coastal areas.

The tour not only showcased Badagry’s rich historical heritage but also underscored the need for sustainable tourism development and preservation of cultural landmarks. As the travel agents continue to explore and promote the town’s attractions, Badagry is poised to emerge as a must-visit destination for global tourists seeking to delve into Nigeria’s captivating past.
