Narine rules out T20 World Cup participation amid impressive IPL form

Former West Indies bowling all-rounder Sunil Narine has made it clear that he will not be reversing his retirement decision for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA. Despite his sensational form in the ongoing IPL season, Narine insists that the “door is now closed” for a return to international cricket.

The 35-year-old last played for West Indies in a T20 international game in August 2019 before retiring from international cricket in November last year to focus on franchise T20 leagues around the world. His decision to retire was met with disappointment from fans and teammates who were hoping to see him represent the West Indies once again.

Narine, who has been a key player for Kolkata Knight Riders since 2012, has been in outstanding form this IPL season. He is currently seventh on the list of leading run-scorers with 286 runs, including a maiden T20 century. With the ball, he is KKR’s joint-leading wicket-taker with nine scalps at an average of 22.11.

Despite his impressive performances, Narine remains firm in his decision to retire from international cricket. He took to Instagram to express his gratitude for the support but made it clear that he has made peace with his decision and will be supporting the West Indies team from home.

West Indies captain Rovman Powell has been trying to convince Narine to come out of retirement for the T20 World Cup, but the spinner seems determined to stick to his decision.
