Narsingh Yadav, the former World championships bronze medallist and Arjuna award winner, has been elected as the chairman of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Athletes’ Commission. In his new role, Narsingh has vowed to stand by the athletes and work towards their welfare.
The United World Wrestling (UWW) had recently lifted the suspension on the WFI, but mandated the re-convening of the Athletes’ Commission by July 1. Narsingh, who heads the seven-member panel, expressed his proactive approach towards addressing athletes’ issues.
“As an athlete who has competed at the highest level, I understand the obstacles athletes face to perform at the top level. I promise that I will not let anyone face any problems, and I will stand by any athlete who needs support,” Narsingh stated.
He emphasized the importance of athletes focusing on their game without distractions, and expressed his commitment to working with the WFI to address any complaints or issues raised by wrestlers.
Despite his own wrestling career being cut short due to an ACL injury, Narsingh is determined to contribute towards helping India win more medals. His experience and dedication to the sport make him a valuable asset in his new role as chairman of the WFI Athletes’ Commission.
