The city of Cape Coral is gearing up to open its new premier racquet center this summer, with Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) selected as the operating partner for the facility. The Lake Kennedy Racquet Center will feature 32 pickleball courts and 12 tennis courts, making it a top destination for sports enthusiasts in the area.
Joe Petrella, the city’s Parks and Recreation director, expressed excitement about the partnership with SFC, highlighting the firm’s experience in managing parks and recreation assets, booking tournaments, and creating a great guest experience. The decision to construct the entire project at once was made following unanimous City Council approval, as part of the $60 million Parks and Recreation GO Bond approved in 2018.
Local pickleball players are eagerly anticipating the opening of the facility, but some have raised concerns about potential fees for playing. Despite the availability of free pickleball courts in neighborhood parks and low-cost options nearby, the new racquet center is expected to attract a large number of players from across the state.
Councilmember Robert Welsh praised the partnership with SFC, emphasizing the transformation of the Lake Kennedy Racquet Center into a premier sports destination. Jack Adams, vice president of Sports & Entertainment Venues at SFC, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration and the opportunity to enhance the city’s sporting landscape.
With SFC’s track record of managing top-notch sports and recreation facilities nationwide, the partnership with Cape Coral is expected to bring a new era of sports and recreation to the community. The opening of the Lake Kennedy Racquet Center is set to elevate the city’s status as a hub for pickleball and tennis enthusiasts, drawing visitors and boosting economic vitality in the area.
