National Technology Day is a day to celebrate the advancements made in the field of technology by scientists, researchers, engineers, and innovators. This year, on May 11, 2024, the theme for National Technology Day is “School to Startups – Inspiring Young Minds to Innovate”. The aim is to encourage young minds to innovate and guide them towards establishing their own startups.
The significance of May 11 dates back to 1998 when India successfully conducted the Nuclear Missile Test at the Pokhran range as part of “Operation Shakti”. This event made India the sixth country in the world to possess nuclear weapons. In honor of this achievement, the government, under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, declared May 11 as National Technology Day from the following year.
The day is not only a celebration of past achievements but also a platform to recognize and award the winners of the Rashtriya Vigyan Purashkar, or National Science Awards. Additionally, seminars, conferences, and exhibitions are held across the country to showcase India’s technological prowess and inspire future generations to contribute to the field of technology.
