The Mobile Tennis Center is set to receive a major upgrade thanks to $111,500 in grants from the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The funds will be used to install new LED lights on 34 of the center’s 60 courts, ensuring that players have high-quality lighting for their matches.

Located at 851 Gaillard Dr., the Mobile Tennis Center is one of the largest public tennis facilities in the nation. The grant money will complete the city’s ongoing project to update the lighting at the center, making it even more attractive for players and coaches in the Southeast region.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson expressed his gratitude to USTA for recognizing the value of the Mobile Tennis Center to the community and the game of tennis. He believes that outfitting all the courts with LED lighting will attract even more world-class tournaments and players to the area.

In addition to hosting competitions, the tennis center offers private and group tennis lessons for all ages, adult and junior clinics, and an on-site pro shop. The court rates are affordable, with prices ranging from $2 to $5 depending on the time of day and the player’s age.

USTA Southern Executive Director & COO Matt Olson praised the Mobile Tennis Center as one of the top facilities in the country and emphasized USTA’s mission to improve and expand tennis facilities for all players. With the new LED lights, the center is poised to continue its legacy as a premier tennis destination.
