Loveland Public Library Launches Digital Navigators Program to Bridge the Digital Divide
In a world where digital skills are essential for almost every job, the Loveland Public Library has taken a proactive step to ensure that everyone has access to the digital tools they need. The library has launched the Digital Navigators program, which aims to provide coaching and assistance with basic digital skills to residents of Larimer County.
The Digital Navigators program offers long-term, routine appointments to help individuals build their digital skills and confidence in using computers. From smartphone navigation to internet searching, the program covers a wide range of topics to help individuals navigate the digital world effectively. The program also assists in acquiring devices and researching affordable internet connectivity options for home use.
Funded by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the Office of the Future of Work, Serve Colorado, and other sponsors, the Digital Navigators program is part of a larger initiative to increase digital access and inclusion in Colorado. The program utilizes AmeriCorps service members to act as Digital Navigators at various library locations throughout Larimer County.
According to Loveland Public Library Technology Manager Erik Rock, the demand for technology assistance has been increasing in the community, and the library has recognized the need for such services. The program is actively recruiting additional positions to expand its services to more libraries in the area.
