The Dallas Mavericks faced a tough challenge heading into Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, who were heavily favored to win their 18th title. Despite being the underdogs, the Mavericks had defied the odds throughout the playoffs and were expected to put up a fight.
However, the Celtics had other plans as they cruised to a 107-89 victory on their home floor at TD Garden. While Mavericks’ superstar Luka Doncic put up an impressive performance with 30 points and 10 rebounds, his teammate Kyrie Irving struggled, shooting 6-for-19 from the floor and finishing with only 12 points.
Analysts pointed out that the Mavericks will need more from Irving if they hope to compete with the stacked Boston squad. Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports emphasized the importance of Irving stepping up to support Doncic in the series.
Fortunately for the Mavericks, it’s only the first game, and there is still room for improvement. Game 2 will take place in Boston once again on Sunday, followed by Game 3 in Dallas at the American Airlines Center.
The pressure is on Irving to bounce back and make a significant impact in the upcoming games to give the Mavericks a fighting chance against the Celtics. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if Irving can rise to the occasion and help his team turn the tide in the NBA Finals.
