NBA Prospect Decides to Withdraw From Draft

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former Florida Atlantic guard Johnell Davis has made the decision to withdraw from the 2024 NBA Draft and return to college for another season. This move comes as a blow to an already criticized draft class, which is being labeled as potentially the worst in decades due to a lack of star power at the top and questionable depth throughout the first round.

Davis, who averaged 18.2 points per game and shot 41 percent from three-point range last season, will be joining Arkansas for his final college basketball season. After a successful four-year stint at FAU, Davis emerged as one of the most efficient high-volume scorers in college basketball this past season. He led FAU to a Final Four run in 2023 and will now look to make an impact in the SEC under new Razorbacks head coach John Calipari.

Despite being projected outside the top 50 prospects in many mock drafts, Davis will have the opportunity to improve his stock playing for a revamped Arkansas team. The Razorbacks boast the top-ranked transfer class in the country and the No. 6 incoming freshman class, indicating a strong roster under Coach Calipari’s leadership.

While it may be a challenge for Davis to replicate his impressive scoring numbers at FAU, the opportunity to work with a coach like Calipari and play in a competitive conference like the SEC could prove beneficial for his future draft prospects. It remains to be seen how Davis will fare in his final college season, but the decision to return for another year could pay off in the long run.
