The anticipation for the 2024 NBA Draft is building as the selection order for the top 14 picks was determined through six random drawings on Monday. The Charlotte Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers found themselves tied for the third-worst record in the league at 21-61, with the Hornets winning the tiebreaker and securing a 13.3 percent chance at the No. 1 overall pick.
In another tiebreaker scenario, the Sacramento Kings edged out the Golden State Warriors for better odds in the lottery after both teams finished with a 46-36 record in the regular season. The Kings will now have a 0.8 percent chance at a top pick, slightly higher than the Warriors’ 0.7 percent.
While the lottery on May 12 will determine the order of the top 14 picks, the selection order for picks 15-30 has already been finalized. The Philadelphia 76ers emerged from a four-way tie at 47-35 to secure the No. 16 pick, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic, and Indiana Pacers.
The Milwaukee Bucks won a tiebreaker with the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans for the 21st overall pick, but the pick will actually convey to the Pelicans as part of a previous trade. The Dallas Mavericks also secured the 24th pick over the New York Knicks, but the Knicks will still have both picks due to a previous trade involving the Mavericks.
In a final tiebreaker, the Denver Nuggets won over the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 28 pick, with the Utah Jazz controlling the Thunder’s No. 29 pick as a result of multiple trades. The Boston Celtics will have the No. 30 pick in the draft.
