NBC4 Washington reports Margot Robbie set to star in upcoming ‘Monopoly’ film

Margot Robbie, the powerhouse producer and star behind the successful “Barbie” movie, is now setting her sights on another iconic toy – Monopoly. The announcement of a Monopoly movie was made by Robbie and her production company LuckyChap, along with Hasbro and Lionsgate, at the CinemaCon conference in Las Vegas.

After the massive success of “Barbie,” which grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide, Robbie and her team are ready to bring their creative vision to the classic board game. Lionsgate, the studio behind the project, is also working on a new installment of “The Blair Witch Project” with Blumhouse, known for their expertise in horror films like “The Purge” and “M3GAN.”

“The Blair Witch Project” was a groundbreaking film in the horror genre, earning $248 million at the box office and spawning two sequels. Jason Blum, the founder of Blumhouse, expressed his excitement for the project, highlighting the impact of the original film on the industry.

Lionsgate had a successful year in 2023 with hits like “John Wick 4” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” The studio is also looking forward to upcoming releases like “Borderlands,” starring Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett, set for an August theatrical release.
