In a highly anticipated matchup, the 14th-ranked NC State women’s tennis team faced off against second-ranked Stanford in the NCAA Championship Super Regional, ultimately falling short with a 4-0 defeat. The Wolfpack concluded their 2024 dual match season with a commendable 22-9 record, showcasing their strength and consistency throughout the year.

Despite a valiant effort, NC State was unable to secure the crucial second match win needed to clinch the doubles point, putting Stanford in the lead early on. The Pack’s top doubles pair, No. 12 ranked duo Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo, managed to secure a victory on court one, but it was not enough to turn the tide in their favor.

Moving on to singles play, the Wolfpack found themselves facing an uphill battle as Stanford dominated the first sets on all six courts. Senior Gina Dittmann managed to secure a singles set win, but the match concluded before the third set could be played, ultimately leading to Stanford’s victory.

Despite the tough loss, the season is not over for some members of the team. Rajecki, Zampardo, and others will have the opportunity to represent NC State in the individual singles and doubles NCAA Tournament in Stillwater, Oklahoma from May 20-25.

Overall, the NC State women’s tennis team can hold their heads high after a successful season that saw them consistently ranked in the top 15 nationally and making it to the Sweet 16 for the fifth consecutive year. Though their journey in the NCAA Championship may have come to an end, the Wolfpack’s resilience and talent are sure to carry them far in future seasons.
