In a thrilling match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Gustavus men’s tennis duo of Gage Gohl and Tyler Haddorff secured the program’s sixth NCAA doubles national championship. The dynamic duo faced off against tough competition from Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund of Sewanee, ultimately emerging victorious with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win.

The road to victory was not easy for Gohl and Haddorff. In the semifinals, they started strong against Ethan Green and Kael Shah of Denison, dominating the first set with a 6-1 win. Despite a brief setback in the second set, the Gusties rallied back to clinch the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

In the national championship match, Sewanee initially took the lead with a 6-2 win in the first set. However, Gustavus quickly turned the tide in the second set, securing a 6-1 victory to force a deciding third set. With both teams holding serve in the early stages, the Gusties broke serve for a 4-3 lead and ultimately sealed the deal with a 6-4 win in the third set.

Gohl and Haddorff’s impressive performance capped off an outstanding sophomore season, where they were named MIAC Doubles Team of the Year, earned ITA and NCAA All-America honors, and claimed an ITA Regional Championship. Their victory marks the first doubles title for Gustavus in 21 years, following in the footsteps of past champions like Eric Butorac and Kevin Whipple.

The Gustavus Men’s Tennis program now adds another chapter to its storied history of doubles success, with Gohl and Haddorff joining the ranks of legendary pairs who have brought home national titles for the program.
