Canadian tennis fans have a new Fernandez to cheer for in the NCAA rankings, and it’s not Leylah Annie or Bianca. Bianca Jolie Fernandez, the younger sister of Leylah, has been making waves in the American collegiate system, climbing up to No. 65 in the singles rankings.

Playing for UCLA, Fernandez has a solid 15-7 record in 2024 and has been on a winning streak, securing victories in four of her last six matches. Despite normally playing in the No. 3 singles spot, Fernandez has shown her versatility by stepping up to the No. 2 position and coming out victorious.

In the doubles rankings, Mia Kupres of Texas A&M currently holds the top spot among Canadian women, sitting at No. 46. Kupres, along with her partner Mary Stoiana, has been a force to be reckoned with, winning three of their last four matches.

On the men’s side, Joshua Lapadat of Kentucky has emerged as the top Canadian player in the NCAA, ranking No. 4 in doubles alongside JJ Mercer. Lapadat and Mercer have been dominating the doubles scene with an impressive 15-4 record.

The competition for the top Canadian men’s singles spot has been intense between Justin Boulais of Ohio State and Taha Baadi of Kentucky. With Baadi recently overtaking Boulais in the rankings, the battle for supremacy continues.

Overall, Canadian players are making their mark in the NCAA rankings, showcasing their talent and determination on the court. Fans can expect more exciting matches and impressive performances from these rising stars in the weeks to come.
