NCAA Reaches Settlement with Athletes.org, Securing Victory

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The NCAA is currently in deep settlement talks with the lead attorneys in the lawsuits House v. NCAA and Carter v. NCAA, both of which involve athletes suing the governing body over athlete payment and antitrust law violations. If the House case goes to trial and the NCAA loses, it could be facing a payout of over $4 billion, providing a strong incentive for the organization to settle.

In related news, Athletes.org scored a major victory by signing up the entire UAB football roster, making them the first team to join the organization. This move brings Athletes.org closer to its goal of enlisting 5,000 NCAA athletes by the end of the year. However, questions have been raised about potential conflicts of interest surrounding the organization’s co-founder, former INFLCR founder/CEO Jim Cavale.

Other recent developments in college sports include former LSU football coach Ed Orgeron winning a court case regarding a binding term sheet he signed with the school, gymnast Livvy Dune signing a multimillion-dollar NIL deal with Passes, Reggie Bush reclaiming his Heisman trophy, the NCAA selecting Teamworks to manage a central repository of voluntary NIL disclosure data, and the announcement of the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl Presented by Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop.

Additionally, Sportico covers various other topics in the sports world, including the ongoing NBA TV rights negotiations, the impact of the Chicago Bears’ relevance on the NFL, the possibility of a salary cap in the Premier League, and recent developments involving Wrexham and Club Necaxa.
