NCEMA Improves National System’s Readiness for Monitoring Weather Conditions in the UAE

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team recently convened to discuss the latest weather developments and their potential impact on the country. Led by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the National Center for Meteorology (NCM), as well as other relevant government departments.

During the meeting, the importance of maintaining business continuity plans and closely monitoring the ongoing weather situation was emphasized to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions. The NCM reported that the current weather event is expected to bring local convective rain clouds to the country from today, Tuesday, until tomorrow, Wednesday. There is a possibility of small hail falling in the eastern regions and extending to some internal and western regions. Additionally, moderate to heavy rain is expected to fall in scattered areas from Wednesday night to Thursday, accompanied by occasional lightning and thunder. Small hail may also be concentrated in the western regions, on the coasts, and in some eastern areas.

Looking ahead, cloud quantities are expected to decrease on Friday and Saturday, with the possibility of continuing light to medium rain, which may be heavy in some southern and eastern regions. The MoI assured that the Supreme Committee for Internal Security is maintaining full coordination with the Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team to monitor developments and assess the expected impacts of the weather situation on the affected areas.

The Ministry has taken proactive measures to support response operations, ensuring that necessary resources and capabilities are in place in areas likely to be affected by the weather. Response plans and business continuity plans for vital sectors are also ready. Emphasizing the safety of the community and protection of lives and property, the MoI urges the public to exercise caution, adhere to safety standards, comply with directives from authorities, avoid spreading rumors, and rely on official sources for information.

In preparation for the weather conditions, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has implemented measures to ensure the safety of infrastructure, particularly roads and dams. These measures include draining water to reduce pressure, cleaning water drains, and utilizing advanced systems and modern technologies in dam management to enhance efficiency and enable rapid decision-making during monitoring of rainwater flows, floods, and flash floods in valleys.

The Ministry highlighted the use of modern technology in analyzing and calculating water flow rates, quantities, and depths accurately, with data transmitted to the control and monitoring unit for processing and analysis. With the country passing through the recovery phase from the previous weather situation, it is crucial for all government departments to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.

As the situation unfolds, it is essential for residents to stay informed through official sources and follow safety guidelines to minimize risks and ensure a coordinated response to any potential impacts of the weather. The efforts of the Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team, along with the collaboration of various government departments, are crucial in safeguarding the country and its residents during challenging weather events.
